About Me

non-slip, beautiful concrete finishes for pool decks

The surface around my in-ground swimming pool was always slippery when it was wet. I decided last year after watching my three year old son slip and fall for the last time that I was going to have a contractor come out and resurface the area around the pool. I have spent the last several months looking into the different concrete finishing techniques that will not only provide a safe, non-slip surface, but that would also look really nice around the pool. To find out what options you have to create a non-slip beautiful surface around your pool, visit my site.

Types Of Concrete Cutting Methods

by Bessie Armstrong

Concrete is a sturdy and long-lasting material that contractors use to construct buildings and pavements. While building owners choose concrete because the material can last for years, a time may come when you need to remove the concrete. Perhaps, you want to replace the existing slab, or you want to change your building's design. That means that some concrete slabs have to go.

The conventional method of cutting concrete is through jackhammers that cause vibrations, which may cause stress cracks in adjacent areas. Besides, the method can be messy, leaving behind dust and concrete waste. Today, there are modern concrete cutting methods that are clean, fast, and less tedious. If you have an upcoming concrete cutting project, here are different techniques you should consider.

Track or Wall Sawing

Track sawing is the best technique for cutting straight or sloped surfaces. Typically, contractors utilize a round diamond blade joined to a track-mounted system to facilitate accurate positioning of the saw. The track system enables the wall saws to attach to any vertical or horizontal surfaces. A track saw can execute straight and sloping cuts while maintaining structural integrity. Contractors use track sawing to open up fortified concrete surfaces, create crawl spaces, create window and door openings, and concrete demolition. Additionally, contractors use this concrete cutting method to create space for installing HVAC systems.

Floor or Slab Sawing

Contractors use floor saws to make horizontal cuts through flat surfaces such as concrete roads and slabs. Floor sawing is ideal for demolition, road works, and paving projects. Generally, floor saws have a round diamond blade fixed on a shaft that runs on an electric or fuel-powered engine that requires one operator. During cutting, friction may occur, resulting in heat production. Contractors apply water on the floor to cool the diamond blade. Additionally, the water application helps reduce dust.

Wire Sawing

This concrete cutting method is appropriate if you're dealing with steel-reinforced concrete that a jackhammer may strain to cut. Wire saws comprise a steel wire with diamond parts that cut concrete via abrasion. The wire connects to a pulley system, which aligns to the cut's direction. When the wire wraps the concrete, the pulleys pull the wire initiating the cutting process. Water runs through the saw and acts as a lubricant to prevent overheating, resulting from excessive friction.

Track, slab, and wire sawing are common concrete cutting methods. Consider hiring concrete contractors to help you implement any of these techniques successfully.
